HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ALICIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHERE DO I EVEN START WITH THIS ONE?!?!? Alicia Renee Webster is my sister and I could not ask for anyone better! She is the best sister in every way possible! Everyone that knows her knows that when you are around her you are going to have a good time. She cracks me up every day! She always has my back and is there for me no matter what. Alicia is the best mom to her kids and she loves her husband so much. Sometimes I just watch Alicia and Mitchell and after 13 years of being together and over 6 years of marriage they are still so cute and playful! They crack each other up and love to spend time together.

Alicia has always been a leader and I was definitely her little follower growing up. She used ot take me by the hand when we were toddlers and take me into the nieghbors' houses whether we knew them or not! Ha!

Alicia is the most intelligent girl I know and has a witty sense of humor that blows people away! She is so talented in so many ways that its hard to try to keep up with. I looooooove this girl so much and am so happy she is my sister!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RYEN!!!

My sweet little Ryen's birthday was a couple days ago and she is now three! She might be the funniest little three year-old girl you'd ever meet! I laugh just thinking about her. She is almost exactly the way Alicia was when Alicia was younger- looks, personality, everything! Her energy is out of this world..along with her independence and understanding of things. Ryen has the sweetest side to her along with being super independent. She loves to be loved and loves to give it. She is not shy in the slightest and says the funniest things every, single day. I just love this girl so much I cannot even describe! Aunt Nini loves you, Button Nose!

SO glad I can just type like it's my journal since I haven't really told anyone about my blog!

I just had a 14 hour day at school....why am I awake?

Oh well, I am so happy right now!

Soooo.....I was thinking....I had a break between classes today and the tv was on BYU tv. If you've ever seen BYU tv around noon, you'd know there is this whole show dedicated to scrapbooking. Yes, a whole show. This may be exciting for some (especially if you're really into blogging...which is like electronic scrapbooking), but for me..um...no. I couldn't help but to smile as I watched these super-sweet, very dedicated women talking about things I had never even heard of. There were other people in this little break room so I was about to start making a joke about the show, but I stopped myself because I thought maybe they were into it.

Hmmm...ok so this made me start thinking. I am one of the only girls I know that has never had any interest in scrapbooking whatsoever (I would pay someone else to do it, I'm sure), I'm just now trying to get myself to be into blogging, I have never even thought about what colors, flowers, themes, cake, etc. that I would want at my wedding (I've actually only even thought about a wedding in general starting a number of months ago), and the last 5 or 6 guys I've dated have all coincidentally said the same exact words, no joke, "Being with you is like dating a dude". Ha!! Wait....that may not be a compliment...Anyway, maybe it's time to start being a little more dainty...

btw, this has nothing to do with my post, but here are some flowers (before they all opened) Sean got for me the other day for no reason- he does that a lot and it is very sweet. What a good boy!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TAY TAY!!!!!

Today is sweet little Taylor Eve's birthday! She is officially a number! My neice is soooooooo adorable and cracks me up with her precocious and already-defined personality. She is one year today, but she KNOWS what she wants and makes a point to get it! When she is with my dad she will not go to anyone. If he walks into the room it doesn't matter what she is doing, she will drop it and go to him. She loves her daddy (my little...well, not-that-little brother), but is a mama's girl for sure! Kirsten and Josh are so good with their kids and really make it a point to show them love and teach them things. Right now I am in Utah so I can't make it to her birthday party, but I hope she knows I love those sweet, chubby cheeks and am so glad she came into the world!

SO EXCITED FOR CONFERENCE!!

I looove LDS General Conference! My dad comes into town in a few hours which just adds to my joy! BYU is playing tonight which also make me happy (I have to admit, BYU football has grown on me, although I've always enjoyed college football).
Yesterday I listened to this talk by President Henry B. Eyring on my way to school. It is my fourth time listening to/reading this talk. I love it (obviously)! He talks about how he wrote in his journal the manner in which he saw "the hand of the Lord" in his life that day, or in other words, the many ways the Lord had blessed him that day. He wrote every day- no matter how tired he was or how early he had to get up the next day. We sometimes forget to notice all the AMAZING things our Heavenly Father does for us and we have a tendency to feel sorry for ourselves, but in counting our blessings we truly see that there are too many to count. The act of CHOOSING to recognize the many ways the Lord blesses us has greatly benefited President Eyring's life and the lives of his children. I have been doing this lately and since I have, the blessings from God are coming in abundance and the speed in which I choose to notice them, feel appreciation and show gratitude has dramatically increased.

"O Remember, Remember"
President Henry B. Eyring Second Counselor in the First Presidency
“O remember, remember,” Book of Mormon prophets often implored.1 My point is to urge you to find ways to recognize and remember God’s kindness.

I was grateful for the choir in their broadcast this morning, which was about the Savior, and grateful to see that the words of one of the songs they sang, “This Is the Christ,” were written by President James E. Faust. As I sat down next to Brother Newell, I leaned over to him and asked, “How are your children?” He said, “When President Faust sat in that chair, that’s what he always asked.” I’m not surprised, because President Faust was always a perfect example of a disciple that was described in Music and the Spoken Word today. I always felt that when I grew up, I wanted to be like President Faust. There may still be time.
When our children were very small, I started to write down a few things about what happened every day. Let me tell you how that got started. I came home late from a Church assignment. It was after dark. My father-in-law, who lived near us, surprised me as I walked toward the front door of my house. He was carrying a load of pipes over his shoulder, walking very fast and dressed in his work clothes. I knew that he had been building a system to pump water from a stream below us up to our property.
He smiled, spoke softly, and then rushed past me into the darkness to go on with his work. I took a few steps toward the house, thinking of what he was doing for us, and just as I got to the door, I heard in my mind—not in my own voice—these words: “I’m not giving you these experiences for yourself. Write them down.”
I went inside. I didn’t go to bed. Although I was tired, I took out some paper and began to write. And as I did, I understood the message I had heard in my mind. I was supposed to record for my children to read, someday in the future, how I had seen the hand of God blessing our family. Grandpa didn’t have to do what he was doing for us. He could have had someone else do it or not have done it at all. But he was serving us, his family, in the way covenant disciples of Jesus Christ always do. I knew that was true. And so I wrote it down, so that my children could have the memory someday when they would need it.
I wrote down a few lines every day for years. I never missed a day no matter how tired I was or how early I would have to start the next day. Before I would write, I would ponder this question: “Have I seen the hand of God reaching out to touch us or our children or our family today?” As I kept at it, something began to happen. As I would cast my mind over the day, I would see evidence of what God had done for one of us that I had not recognized in the busy moments of the day. As that happened, and it happened often, I realized that trying to remember had allowed God to show me what He had done.
More than gratitude began to grow in my heart. Testimony grew. I became ever more certain that our Heavenly Father hears and answers prayers. I felt more gratitude for the softening and refining that come because of the Atonement of the Savior Jesus Christ. And I grew more confident that the Holy Ghost can bring all things to our remembrance—even things we did not notice or pay attention to when they happened.
The years have gone by. My boys are grown men. And now and then one of them will surprise me by saying, “Dad, I was reading in my copy of the journal about when . . . ” and then he will tell me about how reading of what happened long ago helped him notice something God had done in his day.
My point is to urge you to find ways to recognize and remember God’s kindness. It will build our testimonies. You may not keep a journal. You may not share whatever record you keep with those you love and serve. But you and they will be blessed as you remember what the Lord has done. You remember that song we sometimes sing: “Count your many blessings; name them one by one, And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.”2
It won’t be easy to remember. Living as we do with a veil over our eyes, we cannot remember what it was like to be with our Heavenly Father and His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ, in the premortal world; nor can we see with our physical eyes or with reason alone the hand of God in our lives. Seeing such things takes the Holy Ghost. And it is not easy to be worthy of the Holy Ghost’s companionship in a wicked world.
That is why forgetting God has been such a persistent problem among His children since the world began. Think of the times of Moses, when God provided manna and in miraculous and visible ways led and protected His children. Still, the prophet warned the people who had been so blessed, as prophets always have warned and always will: “Take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life.”3
And the challenge to remember has always been the hardest for those who are blessed abundantly. Those who are faithful to God are protected and prospered. That comes as the result of serving God and keeping His commandments. But with those blessings comes the temptation to forget their source. It is easy to begin to feel the blessings were granted not by a loving God on whom we depend but by our own powers. The prophets have repeated this lament over and over:
“And thus we can behold how false, and also the unsteadiness of the hearts of the children of men; yea, we can see that the Lord in his great infinite goodness doth bless and prosper those who put their trust in him.
“Yea, and we may see at the very time when he doth prosper his people, yea, in the increase of their fields, their flocks and their herds, and in gold, and in silver, and in all manner of precious things of every kind and art; sparing their lives, and delivering them out of the hands of their enemies; softening the hearts of their enemies that they should not declare wars against them; yea, and in fine, doing all things for the welfare and happiness of his people; yea, then is the time that they do harden their hearts, and do forget the Lord their God, and do trample under their feet the Holy One—yea, and this because of their ease, and their exceedingly great prosperity.”
And the prophet goes on to say:
“Yea, how quick to be lifted up in pride; yea, how quick to boast, and do all manner of that which is iniquity; and how slow are they to remember the Lord their God, and to give ear unto his counsels, yea, how slow to walk in wisdom’s paths!”4
Sadly, prosperity is not the only reason people forget God. It can also be hard to remember Him when our lives go badly. When we struggle, as so many do, in grinding poverty or when our enemies prevail against us or when sickness is not healed, the enemy of our souls can send his evil message that there is no God or that if He exists He does not care about us. Then it can be hard for the Holy Ghost to bring to our remembrance the lifetime of blessings the Lord has given us from our infancy and in the midst of our distress.
There is a simple cure for the terrible malady of forgetting God, His blessings, and His messages to us. Jesus Christ promised it to His disciples when He was about to be crucified, resurrected, and then taken away from them to ascend in glory to His Father. They were concerned to know how they would be able to endure when He was no longer with them.
Here is the promise. It was fulfilled for them then. It can be fulfilled for all of us now:
“These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”5
The key to the remembering that brings and maintains testimony is receiving the Holy Ghost as a companion. It is the Holy Ghost who helps us see what God has done for us. It is the Holy Ghost who can help those we serve to see what God has done for them.
Heavenly Father has given a simple pattern for us to receive the Holy Ghost not once but continually in the tumult of our daily lives. The pattern is repeated in the sacramental prayer: We promise that we will always remember the Savior. We promise to take His name upon us. We promise to keep His commandments. And we are promised that if we do that, we will have His Spirit to be with us.6 Those promises work together in a wonderful way to strengthen our testimonies and in time, through the Atonement, to change our natures as we keep our part of the promise.
It is the Holy Ghost who testifies that Jesus Christ is the Beloved Son of a Heavenly Father who loves us and wants us to have eternal life with Him in families. With even the beginning of that testimony, we feel a desire to serve Him and to keep His commandments. When we persist in doing that, we receive the gifts of the Holy Ghost to give us power in our service. We come to see the hand of God more clearly, so clearly that in time we not only remember Him, but we come to love Him and, through the power of the Atonement, become more like Him.
You might ask, “But how does this process get started in someone who knows nothing about God and claims no memory of spiritual experiences at all?” Everyone has had spiritual experiences that they may not have recognized. Every person, upon entering the world, is given the Spirit of Christ. How that spirit works is described in the book of Moroni:
“For behold, the Spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from evil; wherefore, I show unto you the way to judge; for every thing which inviteth to do good, and to persuade to believe in Christ, is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ; wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of God.
“But whatsoever thing persuadeth men to do evil, and believe not in Christ, and deny him, and serve not God, then ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of the devil; for after this manner doth the devil work, for he persuadeth no man to do good, no, not one; neither do his angels; neither do they who subject themselves unto him. . . .
“Wherefore, I beseech of you, brethren, that ye should search diligently in the light of Christ that ye may know good from evil; and if ye will lay hold upon every good thing, and condemn it not, ye certainly will be a child of Christ.”7
So, even before people receive the right to the gifts of the Holy Ghost, when they are confirmed as members of the Church, and even before the Holy Ghost confirms truth to them before baptism, they have spiritual experiences. The Spirit of Christ has already, from their childhood, invited them to do good and warned them against evil. They have memories of those experiences even if they have not recognized their source. That memory will come back to them as missionaries or we teach them the word of God and they hear it. They will remember the feeling of joy or sorrow when they are taught the truths of the gospel. And that memory of the Spirit of Christ will soften their hearts to allow the Holy Ghost to testify to them. That will lead them to keep commandments and want to take the name of the Savior upon them. And when they do, in the waters of baptism, and as they hear the words in confirmation “Receive the Holy Ghost” spoken by an authorized servant of God, the power to always remember God will be increased.
I testify to you that the warm feelings you have had as you have listened to truth being spoken in this conference are from the Holy Ghost. The Savior, who promised that the Holy Ghost would come, is the beloved, glorified Son of our Heavenly Father.
Tonight, and tomorrow night, you might pray and ponder, asking the questions: Did God send a message that was just for me? Did I see His hand in my life or the lives of my children? I will do that. And then I will find a way to preserve that memory for the day that I, and those that I love, will need to remember how much God loves us and how much we need Him. I testify that He loves us and blesses us, more than most of us have yet recognized. I know that is true, and it brings me joy to remember Him. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Random blog treats from the past few weeks...

That's right.....
I love exploring other cultures! The gyros were amazing, the dancing was entertaining and the floors were dirty.

I love these little guys! They are always in my backyard- so beautiful!

Can you see my little boy hiding in the girado? I was trying to get him to practice swimming and he wasn't having any of it...he wouldn't even come for a treat-he means business.

Jenny's cute Pom and Jenny's buff legs

Can you tell I thought I was so tough? Haha...Anyway see below for my personal favorite: Landen and Taylor's duet! If you ever ask Landen to sing a song about Spiderman (or anything for that matter) he will just make up a song on the spot- it is seriously hilarious. He even makes up songs about Aunt Christina :)

Man, I wish.....

.......I cared enough about blogging to keep up on it. I guess that means I'm just spending time actually living as opposed to typing about living. I can deal with that :)

Update

This week has been crazy....good, spiritual, challenging, enlightening and crazy. As you know, Grandpa Reg passed away one week ago exactly so I flew here to AZ on Thursday to be with my family and go to the funeral. Family events are definitely going to be missing grandpa, especially since he comes to EVERY single one of them! The funeral was very, very touching. I cried quite a bit more than I thought I would. He was a true hero in many ways, as represented by the Veterans' service, the number of people in attendance and the people whose lives have been bettered due to his example and testimony. I took several awesome pictures and will be emailing those to the family because I'm not sure I want them to be posted on a blog for anyone to see. Anyway, it was good to see my family; I love you all!

Love you, Grandpa!

This morning I woke up to a call from my dad saying that my grandpa had passed away. I was sad of course, but thanks to the Plan of Salvation (http://www.lds.org/) I was immediately at peace. I love my grandpa and know that he is at ease and no longer suffering from physical infirmities. (Below are some pictures along with the pic of him on my dad's bday blog- Emily thanks for letting me take some off of your blog since I don't have all my pics here in Utah :)

There are so many incredible things that my grandpa did while on this Earth, but one that I am particularly amazed by is the program he started years and years ago to get people off of drugs and alcohol. He has had a hand in helping thousands of people change their lives for the better and grow closer to God...which is ultimately what our purpose is here in this life. What an example to me. I remember one specific occasion a few years ago where this guy asked me out and before we went to our date we stopped by a meeting he volunteered at. The meeting was similar to an AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) meeting in the sense that each person sitting in the circle introduced themselves and spoke about how their week went in regards to the addiction they were trying to overcome. After a short while I put the pieces together and realized I was sitting in one of my grandpa's meetings! I decided to speak up and ask if anyone knew m grandpa, Reg Lewis. Sure enough, the second I said his name the room went silent. Everyone there knew him, loved him and felt largely indebted to him. One person said to me, with a look of awe on her face, "Reg Lewis is your grandpa? I love him so much and he has changed my life". Each person said something similar to that and I was so humbled and grateful to be his granddaughter. The following week, my brother Josh and I wrote him a card telling him of our experience and our gratitude to him and brought it to his work. He of course was overwhelmed with love for us and got a little teary-eyed as he sometimes did.

Another experience that stands out to me is when I was in 4th grade I became ill at school one day and since both of my parents were unable to come pick me up, grandpa eagerly volunteered and came all the way across Mesa to come get me. We went to his house and I fell asleep in one of the bedrooms. I remember waking up to him standing over me with a serving tray that had chicken noodle soup, crackers and Sprite. I could tell he was so excited to serve me and take care of me that day. We hung out the rest of the day just grandpa and I. That is a memory I will never forget.

I know that my grandpa is with our Heavenly Father right now. I also know that through the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ, families can truly be together forever, throughout the eternities. What an amazing knowledge that is!
